Celebrating success

Some very happy news for us in Kampala this week.

All our children who sat their Primary Leaving Exams have passed with flying colours.

Including John, our oldest primary pupil at 16 years. John missed out on his primary education when he was younger because his parents died and he went to live with his grandma. She couldn’t afford school fees or to feed him, he spent his days on the street selling brooms in order to scrape together enough to eat.

Because of support from Awamu friends and family like you, we were able to give him the opportunity to go to school. At over six foot tall he stood out in primary school and received a lot of teasing; 'I don’t care what anyone thinks, I’m just happy to be at school. I study hard because I want to be an Engineer. I’m just trying my hardest'.

And now, along with our other highfliers, he'll be joining Secondary school this Feruary.
