An update from our shelter today
An update from our NansaMba SAFE HAVEN: more room, more safety — thanks to you
Back in October, our community helped unlock every pound of matched funding to keep our shelter for girls excaping violence open.
The funds arrived last week — and they are already at work for girls who need safety today.
As the only girls’ shelter still open in this part of Kampala, we’ve been completely overrun. Some days, more girls arrived than we had beds for. Your support is helping us change that.
Here’s what’s happening right now:
New beds = more room for girls who need safety
We’re installing new bunk beds today, which means extra space — fewer mats on the floor and fewer heartbreaking decisions about turning girls away.
More beds allow us to safely support more girls each night and give them the dignity of a clean, warm place to sleep.
Clean and welcoming
Thanks to you, every girl who reaches us today is welcomed with what she needs to rest and feel safe:
🧺 fresh sheets
🛏️ warm blankets
🍲 warm meals
🧼 soap & sanitary items
🎲 small games & colouring books
Accessibility improvements so no girl is turned away
With your support, we’re making small but vital changes — so girls with injuries or disabilities can be safely cared for.
Every improvement means one more girl we can say yes to.
Keeping our door open when a girl has nowhere else to go
Your generosity is keeping open the only safe space for girls in Kawempe.
Thank you
Your kindness is giving girls safety, support to recover and get justice.
From all of us — and from every girl who will sleep safely tonight — thank you.
